Board recognizes 21 students for academic achievements

April 15, 2005 - Twenty-one MSU students were honored for their academic achievements by the MSU Board of Trustees at its April 8 meeting.

The 21 students, all May graduates, each achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

The Board of Trustees Awards are granted at each commencement to students having the highest scholastic averages at the close of their last semester in attendance.

Recipients of the award are:

  • Bhooma R. Aravamuthan of Kalamazoo, a biochemistry and physiology major in the Lyman Briggs School of Science, College of Natural Science. A member of the Honors College, she is a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School.
  • Katherine J. Badder of Portland, a sociology major in the College of Social Science. A member of the Honors College, she is a graduate of Portland High School.
  • Lisa M. Berlin of Rochester Hills, a finance major in The Eli Broad College of Business. She is a graduate of Rochester Hills High School.
  • Lynn M. Dersley, of Grand Blanc, a hospitality business major in The Eli Broad College of Business. She is a graduate of Grand Blanc High School.
  • Justin J. Gengler of Flushing, a political theory and constitutional democracy major in the James Madison College. A member of the Honors College, he is a graduate of Hill-McCloy High School in Montrose.
  • Jeffrey R. Gour of Commerce, a chemical physics major in the College of Natural Science. A member of the Honors College, he is a graduate of Milford High School in Highland.
  • Lisa M. Granskog of Stephenson, a dietetics major in the College of Human Ecology and kinesiology in the College of Education. A member of the Honors College, she is a graduate of Stephenson High School.
  • Karen E. Gustafson of East Lansing, a physiology major in the College of Natural Science. She is a graduate of East Lansing High School.
  • Michael P. Hoerger of Midland, a psychology major in the College of Social Science. A member of the Honors College, he is a graduate of Midland High School.
  • Mallory S. Koglin of Port Hope, an agribusiness management major in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. A member of the Honors College, she is a graduate of Port Hope Community School.
  • Jacob A. G. Kuiper of Grande Blanc, a computer engineering major in the College of Engineering. A member of the Honors College, he is a graduate of Grand Blanc High School.
  • Jillian S. Maxey of Northville, an accounting major in The Eli Broad College of Business. A member of the Honors College, he is a graduate of Harrison High School in Farmington Hills.
  • Thomas J. McPherson of Plymouth, a history major in the College of Arts and Letters. He is a graduate of F. J. Brennan Catholic High School in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
  • Sze-Ling Ng of Troy, a biochemistry and physiology major in the Lyman Briggs School of Science, College of Natural Science. A member of the Honors College, she is a graduate of Sterling Heights High School in Sterling Heights.
  • Jason F. Shingledecker of Holland, a civil engineering major in the College of Engineering. A member of the Honors College, he is a graduate of Holland High School.
  • David A. Skalny of Shelby Township, a computer engineering and electrical engineering major in the College of Engineering. A member of the Honors College, he is a graduate of Eisenhower Senior High School in Shelby Township.
  • Katherine S. Taylor of Troy, a child development major in the College of Human Ecology. She is a graduate of Athens High School in Troy.
  • Megan E. Townsend of Dansville, an agriculture and natural resources communications major in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. She is a graduate of Dansville High School.
  • Judith A. Turnbull of Grosse Pointe, a zoology major in the College of Natural Science. A member of the Honors College, she is a graduate of Grosse Pointe South High School.
  • Nancy E. Veltema of East Lansing, an education major in the College of Education. A member of the Honors College, she is a graduate of East Lansing High School.
  • Marie L. Wells of Maybee, an accounting major in The Eli Broad College of Business. She is a graduate of Dundee High School.
